**Victim Relatives Demand Russia’s Admission of Responsibility**
Relatives of people killed in the MH17 crash are calling on Russia to admit its responsibility for the tragedy. They want this admission to be part of any peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
The demand was made through letters sent to world leaders, including US President Donald Trump and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The letters were also sent to the Dutch Prime Minister and the EU‘s top diplomat.
**Flight MH17 Downed**
On July 17, 2014, a Boeing-777 plane was shot down over Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast. All 298 people on board were killed, including 196 Dutch citizens. Russia never admitted its role in the disaster. Instead, it spread conspiracy theories to shift the blame.
**Russia’s Involvement**
A court in The Hague found three Russian nationals and one Ukrainian national guilty of involvement in the downing of MH17. They were sentenced to life imprisonment. A fourth defendant was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
**Relatives’ Demands**
The relatives of the victims have long been demanding that Russia admit its responsibility for the crash and investigate those involved. Now, they want this admission to be part of any peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
