**Russia Won’t Fund Anti-Drone Systems for Key Airports**
The Russian government has decided not to use federal funds to protect civilian airports from drone attacks. This was reported by the pro-Kremlin publication Vedomosti on January 12.
The decision affects airports that are considered important, but not as critical as others in terms of transportation infrastructure. This means that these airports will have to rely on their own resources to stay safe from potential drone threats.
**No Money for Drone Defense**
Russia was originally planning to spend over 11 billion rubles (around $106 million) by 2028 to equip 31 major airports, including those in Moscow and St. Petersburg, with anti-drone systems. However, this funding was not included in the relevant federal strategy document on infrastructure security.
**Consequences of Not Funding Anti-Drone Systems**
Not investing in drone defense systems means that Russia’s civil aviation is now more vulnerable to threats from drones. Effective airport defense systems involve detecting and neutralizing drones using air defense measures.
**Ukraine Has Already Used Drones Against Russia**
During the full-scale war, Ukraine has launched long-range drone strikes targeting Russian energy, military, and industrial facilities. As a result, Russian airports have often had to halt operations due to security concerns amid drone attacks.
