A senior Ukrainian official told Reuters that Russian planes have bombed a Kharkiv institute, which houses an experimental nuclear reactor, and that a hostel next door is on fire.
In an online posting, Mr. Anton Gerashchenko (an adviser to the minister of interior affairs) said that the Institute of Physics and Technology contains “sources of radioactivity used for scientific purposes”.
Interfax Ukraine reported that the fire service was extinguishing an blaze in a five story hostel covering a total area of 100 sq. m.
The official website of the Ukrainian Parliament had earlier stated that fighting near the institute continued.
Last week, Russian forces took control of the nuclear power plant at Zaporizhzhia following an attack in which a nearby training facility was set ablaze.
