According to a Russian source, a Russian Mi-28 attack chopper crashed into the Kerch Strait while on a scheduled flight. The Ukrainian military portal Militarnyi confirmed this.
The helicopter was part a ongoing operation to protect the Kerch Bridge. Russian forces use this bridge as a major supply route into occupied Crimea. Russian Mi-28 helicopters and Ka-52 aircraft patrol the area regularly, performing both drone interception and bridge defense missions. In addition, Russia has strengthened the defenses on the bridge by adding more booms in the sea and installing additional air defense systems.
The Russian “milblogger”, Fighterbomber, who is linked to Russian military aviation, wrote that the helicopter pilot lost control before it crashed into water. One of the two crew members has been confirmed dead, while the other is still missing. Search operations are ongoing.
