MEP Viola von Cramon has expressed her belief that the European Union should reconsider its relationship with the Georgian government following the recent breach of the Charles Michel agreement. During a press conference in Tbilisi on July 30, the MEP stated that the April 19 agreement was the basis for the European Parliament’s support of democracy in the Georgian Parliament. She also noted that this was not the first time the Georgian Dream party had broken its promises, which has damaged trust and credibility. According to von Cramon, this decision is only beneficial for the Kremlin and has pushed Georgia further away from the EU. She believes that the EU will need to reassess its relations with the Georgian government in light of this development. The MEP also criticized the United National Movement for their refusal to sign the agreement, stating that the people of Georgia deserve politicians who prioritize the country‘s interests. She emphasized the importance of the upcoming local elections and urged all citizens to exercise their right to vote. Von Cramon also mentioned that the EU will do its best to ensure transparent elections through the deployment of observers. The ruling party, Georgian Dream, officially left the April 19 Agreement on July 28, prompting von Cramon’s visit to Tbilisi.
