**Georgian People Fight for Democratic Elections**
The people of Georgia want one thing: new elections held under fair conditions. This is the right they are fighting for, according to MEP Sergey Lagodinsky.
Speaking at a European Parliament session, Lagodinsky said that some politicians were spreading lies about the Georgian people. They claimed that there was “street violence” and a “bloody Maidan”. But this is not true. Many Europeans, including Lagodinsky himself, went to Tbilisi and walked with the protesters in the cold nights. Hundreds of thousands of people joined them, demanding a better future for themselves and their children.
The Georgian dream is to have a democratic government like those found in Europe. This is what they want. But the current ruling party, “Georgian Dream“, is using its power to attack journalists, peaceful protesters, and members of the opposition. Even former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia was brutally attacked just days ago.
**Call for Democratic Elections**
Lagodinsky addressed the leaders of the Georgian government directly: Irakli Kobakhidzev and Mikheil Kavelashvili. He asked them how much further they were willing to escalate the situation. The people want new elections held under democratic conditions, and this is what they deserve.
The right to be safe and free from torture is a basic human right. Lagodinsky warned that if these rights are not respected, there will be targeted sanctions against those in power.
