MEPs Join Ongoing Rally in Tbilisi
A group of European parliament members joined protesters on Rustaveli Avenue in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. The MEPs met with applause and cheers from the crowd.
The politicians were Reinier van Lanschot from the Netherlands, Michał Szczerba from Poland, Tobias Cremer from Germany, and Rasa Juknevičienė from Lithuania, and Sergey Lagodinsky from Germany. They joined thousands of people protesting near the parliament building.
Protesters are demanding that the government schedules new elections and releases those arrested during the protests. The demonstrations began after a decision by the “Georgian Dream” party to delay EU negotiations until 2028.
Rallies are taking place not only in Tbilisi but also in several other cities across Georgia.
