The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia released a statement on the NATO Summit at Vilnius.
In a statement, the Foreign Ministry noted that it was extremely important for Georgia to participate at the NATO Vilnius Summit.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also believes that the participation of a Georgian delegation at the Vilnius Summit under the leadership of Minister of Foreign Affairs, once again, indicates the strategic importance of NATO and Georgia cooperation as well as the irreversibility of Georgia’s integration process.
In its statement, the Georgian government welcomes the support expressed by the final document of this summit in both the political and practical dimensions.
“The readiness of the member states confirmed at the summit is very important for Georgia to continue working on the implementation of the Bucharest Summit decision that Georgia will be a NATO member.
The Georgian side is pleased with NATO’s unwavering position that any attempt to limit the choices of sovereign nations in terms of foreign and security policies will not be tolerated.
The Georgian side finds it particularly valuable that the Alliance has not wavered in its support for the sovereignty and territorial unity of Georgia. It also appreciates the Russian Federation‘s call to withdraw the illegally stationed occupation forces on the territory Georgia and to revoke the recognition of so-called independent regions of Georgia.
Georgia welcomes NATO’s recognition that Georgia has made a significant contribution to global safety and confirms it is ready to continue its active participation in NATO missions and activities.
The Georgian side is grateful for the support provided by the member countries within the Substantial NATO – Georgia Package and the support measures tailored to Georgia.
Georgia confirms that it is ready to continue its participation in the strategic dialogue concerning the Black Sea Region and expresses support for the decisions made at the summit regarding the strengthening of NATO’s eastern border and the Black Sea area.
Georgia, as a country that is aspiring to join the EU, welcomes the agreement reached at the summit on the completion of Sweden’s accession process as well as the other decisions made regarding Ukraine.
Georgia, in accordance to its constitutional norm will continue to use existing integration tools effectively,” reads the statement.
