According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia the decision of the Ukrainian Authorities to force the Georgian Ambassador to leave the territory of Ukraine to consult is “an extreme aggravation of diplomatic relationships”.
According to the MFA due to the fact Ukraine is in an active phase of war, the Georgians realize their great responsibility. “At this stage, refrain from any additional reactions to the actions taken by Ukraine and further aggravation bilateral relations with them.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hopes Kyiv will reconsider their decision.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia is deeply concerned about the decision of Ukrainian authorities to force the Georgian Ambassador to leave the country’s territory for consultation. This is a very extreme form of escalation in diplomatic relations. It is unfortunate that Kyiv would take this step against a friendly country and people. The Ukrainian authorities’ explanation for this decision is particularly incomprehensible.
The decision of Strasbourg court ended speculations about the health of Mikheil Sakaashvili. This once again confirmed that the state was protecting Mikheil’s rights to the highest standard. In the context of such developments, it is clear that the decision by the Ukrainian authorities has a significant impact on the strategic relations between the two countries. It also represents a direct intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign country.
We hope that Kyiv reconsiders its decision and makes efforts to further develop historically-friendly relations between the two nations.
We would like once again to stress that Georgia’s unwavering support for the territorial integrity, sovereignty and people of Ukraine is Ukraine. Since the beginning, Georgia has provided political and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine at both the bilateral and international levels.
Even in the most difficult circumstances, the diplomatic representation for Georgia in Ukraine continued to function.
Giorgi Zakarashvili, Georgia’s Extraordinary and Plenary Ambassador, conveyed to the Ukrainian side the position of Tbilisi during the meeting that took place today in Kyiv, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
We would like to state that Georgia will continue in the future to show its solidarity and support to Ukraine, which is in war. In light of the fact that Ukraine is currently in an active phase of war, the Georgians, who are aware of their great responsibility to international relations, and in particular to their partners, refrain from any additional reaction to the actions taken by Ukraine, and further aggravation in bilateral relations, which would bring the already difficult situations to a dead-end,” reads the statement.
