British Ambassador Summoned Over Sanctions on Georgian

The Georgian Ministry called in the Ambassador, Gareth Ward, on December 20. This was because of the UK’ sanctions imposed on senior Georgian officials a day earlier.

These sanctions were put in place by the UK due concerns about how the treated peaceful protesters and figures. The foreign of the ruling , Maka Botchorishvili, expressed concern over these sanctions. She told the Ambassador that they would damage friendly between the two countries.

Botchorishvili also asked for a fair assessment of the current situation in Georgia. She hoped that relations between the Georgian and British Foreign Ministries would get back to normal soon.
