The Ministry of Internal Affairs issued a statement stating that the open altercations yesterday with law enforcement officers had contributed to an extreme escalation of the events. Both participants and law enforcement were injured during the protest rally.
“The protests of the participants at the rally near parliament were violent. The protesters who gathered at Rustaveli Avenue used flammable objects and other items against employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“The open altercation between law enforcement officers and protesters contributed to the extreme escalation in events.” Both participants and officers of the law were injured during the protest rally.
“The Ministry of Internal Affairs as the agency responsible to maintain the rule of Law and public safety calls once again on all citizens, organizers and participants of this rally to stop violent action, observe the law and follow the legitimate requests of police.” Police will respond immediately to any violations of the law during the rally and stop them immediately, according to the law.
