The Ministry of Internal Affairs has halted the investigation into the criminal charges against Sandro Sulaberidze.
According to a statement released by the ministry, the investigation was stopped because there were no signs that there had been a crime.
“On February 4, 2023 the Ministry of Internal Affairs was notified of a theft of modern art from an exhibition space at the National Gallery of Georgia. The relevant services began the investigation in accordance with Article 177, part 2 of the Criminal Code.
The case was the basis for the investigation. The investigation was stopped due to the lack of evidence of a criminal act, after implementing the relevant procedural and investigating actions.
Sandro Sulaberidze participated in the National Gallery of Georgia‘s exhibition “Self-portrait before the mirror”. During the exhibit, he removed the work he had created and wrote on the wall “Art is alive & independent”.
