The tightening of sanctions seems inevitable, and “Georgian Dream”, too, is prepared for it.
Mikheil Jalidze, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, wrote on his Facebook page: “I want to appeal to our European Friends and ask them to not stop visa-free traveling for innocent citizens of Georgia!”
According to him, if the visa-free travel program is discontinued, it will hurt the average citizen because it will alienate Europe. “Georgian Dream”, will use this issue to spread even more anti-European propagandist propaganda.
“In 2016, we asked you, when we were conducting discussions on this issue, to give more Georgians the chance to see the European lifestyle and culture, as well as the benefits of democracy, social benefits, and values. By doing so, European Integration brought tangible benefits to our citizens and moved closer to its historic goal. In the 2024 elections we saw that this decision was correct, and we also saw the commitment of the new generation to the European future.
If the Georgian Dream is vilified by the public and its voters, the visa-free travel for all may be stopped. . This issue will be used by “Georgian Dream”, for more anti-European propagandizing. It is almost the equivalent of not allowing the compatriots in the occupied territories the chance to cross the occupation lines”, Janelidze wrote.
