Georgia is preparing for a massive ethnic cleansing. Another million people have been forced to leave Georgia. We don’t have a lot of time. We need patience, yes, but we also need to be aggressive in our resistance against the de facto dictatorship. – Mikheil Sakaashvili, third president of Georgia writes about this.
Saakashvili‘s response to the opposition’s planned protest rally on Rustaveli Avenue, today. The rally is being held in protest of the results of the October 26, parliamentary elections.
The number of people who attended the rally today is important, but it’s not decisive. The most important thing is the level of resistance, the duration of the actions and the principles of organizers.
The self–organization of the people involved in the elections on October 26 was a complete success. People are angry. Whether this anger grows into a powerful movement of protest depends on the leadership, coherence, and civil sector.
The world is watching Georgia. On the one hand they are amazed at the audacity to steal elections. On the other, they wait to see if Georgians have the strength to resist. Our support depends upon this.
This is what happens when we have our future in our own hands.
We must all understand that not only were elections stolen, but also a dictatorship was established in Georgia. This dictatorship is now eagerly awaiting for the Georgians’ adaptation to the “new realities” before it will finally end remaining freedoms and begin mass repression. Georgia is also preparing for a massive ethnic cleansing. Another million people have been forced to leave Georgia.
We don’t have a lot of time. We need patience, yes, but we also need to be aggressive in our resistance against the de facto established dictature.
We must fight for as long as possible and as much as is necessary!” Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on Facebook.
