USA Helped Georgia in 2008, Says Mikheil Saakashvili
Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili is not happy with the US decision to suspend its strategic partnership with Georgia. He says this leaves his country vulnerable to Russia.
Saakashvili was president when a war broke out between Georgia and Russia in 2008. The US helped protect Georgia from Russian attacks at that time, he claims. A peace treaty was signed on August 12, 2008.
Saakashvili wrote about the situation on social media. He said: “I would like to remind you that the USA protected us from the Russian attack and saved Georgia in 2008.” He feels that without US protection now, Georgia is defenseless against Russia.
