Georgia’s Statehood in Danger?
The president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, says the country is on its way to losing statehood. He thinks this happened because a man named Mikheil Kavelashvili was nominated as a presidential candidate by the party “Georgian Dream”.
Saakashvili wrote on Facebook that this action is meant to make Georgians feel bad about themselves. He compared it to when a Roman emperor, Caligula, made his horse a senator. This was considered a joke back then.
Now, Georgia’s next president will be chosen by an electoral college of 300 people instead of directly by the voters. The election is set for December 14.
