SBU detained a 35 year old female military contractor in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as a Kremlin-supporting blogger for allegedly collecting sensitive information and transmitting it to FSB.
The SBU Press Center reported on 24th October that the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), in Kharkiv Oblast, had detained two individuals suspected of collecting and transferring information about Ukrainian defense forces positions to Russian intelligence services.
Despite the ongoing Russo–Ukrainian conflict, Russian espionage, sabotage and sabotage in Ukraine continue to be a significant threat. The SBU regularly dismantles spy networks, which are often coordinated by Russian FSB agencies and GRU agencies. The networks are often made up of Ukrainian citizens who gather information on critical infrastructure and defense positions in exchange for financial rewards.
According to the SBU one of the suspects was a 35-year old female contractor who worked at a military base in Kharkiv Oblast. The security service reported that she was recruited via Telegram by an FSB agent who posed as a civil and offered a romantic relation.
The suspect, a radio operator who worked in Kharkiv, is accused of using her position to gather intelligence about the locations of defense forces in Kharkiv, and its surrounding areas. The SBU claims she also conducted covert monitoring of Ukrainian military positions in the city.
The second suspect has been identified as a prorussian blogger from Kupiansk who allegedly ran an FSB Telegram Channel. According to the security services, the suspect posted geolocations near the district center of the frontline Ukrainian troops and encouraged followers to share any information about the positions and movements of defense forces in the Kupiansk directions.
Both suspects were found to have mobile phones that contained evidence of subversive activity. They were charged under Articles 114-5, parts 2 and 3, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with unauthorized dissemination of information regarding the location and movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine while martial law was in effect.
The suspects are being detained without bail, and if convicted they could face up to 8 years in prison.
