Levan Davitashvili is the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development. He commented on Nika Gvaramia’s arrest by Mtavari Arkhi TV channel, stating: “The judiciary in Georgia has a unique independence from political processes.” Any court decision is therefore only legal, and will, of course, have no political impact.
He said that Georgians should be proud of their image and reputation, which is based on European values.
“The country is moving toward Europe, European Integration, which means the rule of law is extremely important. We are building a nation governed by the law. Each citizen of Georgia is treated equally before the law. Do we agree? Davitashvili replied, “I think we are in agreement.”
Gvaramia has been accused of embezzling large amounts of property belonging Rustavi 2, commercial corruption, forging official documents and legalizing illegal income through a group that had a preliminary agreement. Gvaramia has also been accused of abuse of his office.
“Stay strong! Stay on Mtavari and gain freedom along with us! Gvaramia wrote in a social media post that “everything will be fine” after he received a sentence of 3 years and 6 month imprisonment.
