“For IDPs who are in the most critical situations, we have already selected land owned by the state in Tbilisi. Rustavi. Kutaisi. And other towns. The process of transferring the lands to municipalities and the Property Management Agency has begun. Zurab Azarashvili, Minister of Refugees and Labor, Health, and Social Affairs, said that we had begun negotiations with construction companies in order to begin construction on the lands.
He also focused on the IDPs who live in the “Kartli sanatorium” and noted that the Ministry actively negotiates with constructors to resettle them.
“Because of the critical situation in hotel Kartli we have found new buildings, which contain about 200 apartments. We are currently negotiating. We will be able to satisfy the population this year with these apartments. I confirm that IDP Agency has located apartments in decent living conditions for IDPs who are living in critical conditions. IDP Agency will rent these apartments to IDPs until construction is complete. Azarashvili stated that they are working in every direction, using all resources possible and will soon have tangible results.
Zurab Chichoshvili (52), an Abkhazian Internally Displaced person living in the old sanatorium Kartli settlement in Tbilisi committed suicide on January 16, by jumping out of the building to protest being forced to live under such conditions. The Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health, and Social Affairs has announced that the IDPs who live in the former sanatorium in Zgvisubani settlement, Tbilisi, will receive new living space in 2022.
