The Ministry of Education, of refutes the information spread by Salome , claiming that personal data of students is collected in to serve specific purposes.
In the statement released by the agency, it was stated that the dissemination of disinformation aims to discredit the education system.
“The Ministry of Education, and of Georgia declares the information spread by Salome Zurabishvili, that personal data of schoolchildren are being collected for specific purposes, was a lie and did not correspond with the truth.
This type of disinformation is intended to discredit the education system.
We would like to inform you that the education management system reflects student data, including personal information, grades and current grades. The system also displays information about the parents or legal representatives.
Periodically, schools update data in the system. This includes the parent/legal representative’s name, contact number, email address, and residential address.
This allows for quick and easy communication if needed with the parent/legal representatives.
The collects, stores, processes, analyses and administers data in the General Education Management Information System in compliance with the of Georgia “On Personal Data Protection”.
The Education Management Information System is authorized to receive, use and store personal data of other public-law legal entities included in Ministry’s system.
The statement stated that “We call on individuals to refrain spreading misinformation which serves to intentionally mislead public.”
Salome Zurabishvili, the President of Georgia, writes on her profile that schools ask children for their parents’ numbers, which is an infringement of personal data.
“If schools ask for such information, it is a violation to personal data!” A child shouldn’t give his parents personal number! It is interesting to identify these schools.” – writes Salome Zurabishvili.
