Ministry of Justice: Hague Tribunal’s Decision on August War Case is Another Victory for Georgia

The Ministry of states that the issuance of a warrant of arrest for three persons the case of August War by the prosecutor of the Hague Tribunal was another for Georgia.
The Ministry notes that the decision confirms once again that the serious crimes committed against the Georgian population during the August War would be attributed representatives of the Russian Federation as well as the separatist regimes.
They also explain that this decision by the Hague Court, along with the historic ruling of the Strasbourg Court on the August War Case of January 21, 2021 is another important victory for the Georgian side before the .
“The appeal by the Prosecutor’ Office regarding the issue of arrest warrants is specific to the facts of illegal imprisonment, inhuman treatment and hostage-taking, as well as further illegal relocation of Georgian civilians under conditions of Russian occupation.” The statement states that, just like the Strasbourg court’s Prosecutor, the Hague Tribunal’s Prosecutor has stated that the territories in Georgia are occupied.
The Hague Court issued arrest warrants against three Ossetian officials for the August war.
According to Karim Khan, the following arrest warrants have been issued:
* Lt. Gen. Mikhail Mayramovich MINDZAEV, (alternatively written as “MINDZAYEV”) appointed in 2005 as of Interior Affairs of the defacto South Ossetian Administration until at least 31 Oct 2008;
* Gamlet GUCHMAZOV, (alternatively “Hamlet” or “KUCHMAZOV”) Head of the Preliminary detention facility of ‘s de facto at the time of events;
* David Georgiyevich SANAKOEV is the de facto Representative for Human Rights of South Ossetia. He was also known at the time as “Ombudsman”.
