**Minor Incident at Belgrade Protest**
A man shouted abuse at a crowd of protesters in front of the University of Belgrade’s law school during a 15 Minutes of Silence memorial protest. The incident happened on January 15.
The man stopped in his tracks, faced the silent protesters and hurled insults at them. He then walked away, still shouting at the crowd. This was just days after a group of thugs attacked students protesting near the same location, injuring several of them with bottles and verbal abuse.
Law school professors Svetislav Kostic and Vanja Bajovic said on the N1 morning show that the attacks on students were sparked by statements from government officials. They claimed that these officials had been targeting students for having an opinion, and that this was the result of a 50-day campaign to silence them.
The student protests began after the collapse of a concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station in November, which killed 15 people. Students have taken over university buildings and hold daily 15 Minutes of Silence vigils, demanding accountability for the tragedy.
