Law school professors Svetislav Kostic and Vanja Bajovic said on the N1 morning show that the attacks on students were sparked by statements from government officials. They claimed that these officials had been targeting students having an opinion, and that this was the result of a 50-day to silence them.

The student began after the collapse of a concrete awning at Railway Station in , which killed 15 people. Students have taken over university buildings and hold 15 Minutes of Silence vigils, demanding accountability for the tragedy.
