Public Prosecutor Blocked from Law School Meeting
A 40-year-old man was not allowed to enter a law school meeting at Novi Sad University in Serbia. The student, who is also a public prosecutor, wanted to attend the students‘ plenary session.
Stefan Basic tried to join the meeting with his student book. He showed it to security guards and said he just wanted to listen to the students’ views. But they refused to let him in.
Basic has been a public prosecutor since January 2024 and is also studying for a master’s degree. When asked about his job, he refused to answer N1’s questions.
Some students were suspicious of Basic because they thought he was just there to record the meeting with a TV crew. But Basic said he was not working with them.
The situation got tense when a journalist from Novi Sad TV tried to enter the meeting and took pictures of the students without their permission. The crew was then asked to leave, with some students shouting “Go Away! Your Hands Are Bloody!” and “Students Don’t Keep Quiet!”
The law school meeting that day discussed pressure on students to take exams.
