French MEP Nathalie Loiseau spoke out against election irregularities in Georgia. She said that fraud and intimidation were seen by her team during an election observation mission.
Loiseau and six colleagues went to Georgia to observe the elections. They witnessed people being threatened or forced to vote a certain way. This is unacceptable, she said.
The Georgian people are looking to the European Union for help. Loiseau believes that the EU should take action. She wants the European Council to discuss this at its next meeting.
Loiseau said that the EU should stand up for democracy. She wants a resolution to be passed that condemns election irregularities in Georgia.
The vote was taken at the European Parliament. Most MEPs (Members of the European Parliament) agreed with Loiseau’s proposal. 309 voted in favor, while 191 were against. Some MEPs, 34, chose not to vote.
