Salome Zurabishvili, president of the “Gakharia for Georgia“, knows our position on the risks that could be created. She replied that he would present the technical government prior to the elections.
According to him, members of the “For Georgia party” will wait for the President’s proposal regarding the so-called Regarding Technical Government. According to her, “For Georgia” is still part of the process that revolves around the “Georgian Charter”.
“This again indicates that in the remaining two-week period, we must pay close attention to the elections as well as the protection of the election. This is the top priority. Our position is very clear. Salome Zurabishvili is well aware of this. It is important to us that, no matter how the technical governments are formed, we have the opportunity to ensure that neither “Georgian Dream”, nor “National Movement” will be the only government formed. We made this compromise and signed the charter as a result. We will therefore wait to see what kind of proposal will be made and how it will presented. We really hope that this will be in practice because we made the compromise. Salome Zurabishvili will be the first to know our position on early parliamentary election. It is not necessary to swear an additional oath in order to express our negative view on the early parliamentary elections. I don‘t believe that this is necessary, and the rest is left to the president. We are still in this process. Staying in the process means this process is built around the Charter and we naturally participate in this.
I don’t really know what the nomination of candidates by the president before the election is going to lead to. Will it turn the election process upside-down, delay communication with citizens, and cause the parties to become busy with other issues? We must defend the elections and we can’t just “dream” about it. We must defend ourselves, and we cannot simply campaign. I am confident that the president will consider this, as she is well aware of our position on the potential risks. The rest is up to the president,” said Mezvrishvili.
