NATO leadership recognizes Ukraine’s right to conduct attacks targets within Russian territory. , NATO’s senior representative Ukraine, told Ukrinform that the countries supplying these weapons are still responsible for granting permission to use them in such attacks.
Russia launches guided bombs and called Shahed on cities and villages every day. Ukraine wants to stop this by attacking Russian bases, airports, drone and ammunition depots. It needs to get approval from its allies before it can carry out strikes in Russia using weapons provided by the West.
“First, under international law and the UN Charter, Ukraine has an absolute right to strike targets outside its borders that Russia attacks. Turner noted that Ukraine has already exercised this right by using NATO-supplied arms and its own armaments.
He did, however, emphasize that each country must decide if Ukraine can use the arms it supplies.
The Alliance’s common goal is to help Ukraine reach the best possible position on the battlefield. NATO has decided to give Ukraine EUR40 billion this year in military aid to achieve this goal, he said.
Turner also reiterated that NATO had consistently emphasized that “progress on a battlefield will not be dependent on a single system, specialized weapon, or individual permission for its use.”
Ukraine continues to convince its partners to allow the targeting of bases within Russian territory using in order to reduce the aggressor’s offensive potential.
Ukraine relies on its own weapons for the time being, primarily drones that have already struck significant objects in Russia, such as ammunition depots and missile storage sites.
