Russia Launches New Missile in Ukraine, but NATO Says It Won’t Change the Course of the Conflict
Russia’s President Vladimir Putin said his country has launched a new ballistic missile called “Oreshnik” at Dnipro in eastern Ukraine. However, NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah said this move will not affect the conflict or stop NATO from supporting Ukraine.
The attack on Dnipro is part of Russia’s ongoing efforts to target Ukrainian cities. This comes after Ukraine used long-range missiles supplied by the West to strike Russian facilities.
On November 17, US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use ATACMS missiles to hit deep into Russian territory. Since then, Ukraine has launched these missiles twice, including a strike in Bryansk Oblast on November 19 and one using UK-supplied Storm Shadow missiles on November 20.
According to defense expert Fabian Hoffmann, Russia chose not to test a nuclear warhead due to potential backlash from international partners like China and India. Instead, they used the IRBM strike as a clear signal to the West while avoiding antagonizing these critical partners.
The attack is seen as purely for political purposes rather than military value.
