The memoir “Patriot”, written by Alexei Navalny, will be published after his death on October 22. The memoir was compiled from the prison diaries of the Russian opposition leader and edited in part Yulia Navynaya. The book will be published in 22 languages including Russian. Navalny died in a Russian penal colony on February 16, after being convicted of several fabricated crimes as part the Kremlin crackdown on dissent. Navalny wrote in “Patriot” that he was expecting to die in prison. In a March 20, 2022 journal entry, he wrote: “I knew that I would be imprisoned forever — either for the rest of my lifetime or until the end the life of this régime.” “I will die in prison, and spend the rest my life there. “Navalnaya said that she hopes that the memoir will ensure that her husband’s political activism continues to inspire Russian opposition movement. In an interview with the BBC‘s Russia Service, she said: “I want to hear his voice loudly after his death.” Navalnaya accused Putin of murdering Navalny and vowed that Navalny would continue his political work. A Moscow court arrested her in absentia on July 28, charging her with “participating with an extremist group” because of her involvement with the Anti-Corruption Foundation founded by her husband. Navalnaya told the BBC that she would run for president if she returned to Russia. The Kremlin denied any involvement in Navalny’s death.
