**Ukrainians Favor Nuclear Weapons Program**
A new poll shows that most Ukrainians want their country to have nuclear weapons. This is a big change from how people felt in the 1990s.
According to a survey, 73% of Ukrainians support the idea of restoring nuclear weapons in Ukraine. The survey was done by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology between December 2 and 17.
**Ukraine’s Nuclear Past**
In 1994, Ukraine gave up its nuclear arsenal to Russia. This happened after Ukraine signed the Budapest Memorandum with Russia, the US, and the UK. The agreement said that in return for giving up its nuclear weapons, Ukraine would get security assurances from these countries.
However, when Russia invaded Ukraine in 2014 and then again in 2022, it made this agreement null and void.
