A new study shows that more than 80% of Ukrainians think their country can win the battle against Russia if they continue to receive support from the West.
The latest survey conducted by the Kyiv Institute of Sociology from 20 September to 30 October 2024 shows that most Ukrainians think that the West wants to end the conflict with their country on acceptable terms.
At the same time, an overwhelming majority of Ukrainians–81%–continue to consider that Ukraine can succeed if the West provides proper support, according to the latest research.
This was the result of the “Omnibus”, a public opinion survey that surveyed 989 respondents. The survey was conducted with adults 18 and older, who were Ukrainian citizens and lived on territory controlled by the Ukrainian Government. The study excluded residents of territories temporarily under Ukrainian control.
“Ukrainians understand the importance of Western assistance in effectively resisting Russian aggression.” The survey found that Ukrainians viewed the invasion as a joint effort by Ukraine and its Western allies to resist the aggressor Russia from the beginning.
In September 2022 80% of Ukrainians considered the success of the Ukrainian Army as a joint achievement of Ukraine and Western. In the same survey 73% of respondents expressed confidence that the West wanted Ukraine to end the conflict on acceptable terms.
In February 2023 81% of Ukrainians thought that cooperation between Ukraine, the West, and Russia to repel Russian aggression would be a “win-win situation” for both Ukraine and West.
Currently, an overwhelming majority of Ukrainians–81%–believe that Ukraine can succeed if properly supported by the West. Only 14% of Ukrainians consider Russia to be strong, compared to only 7% in December 2023. Another 6% of respondents were unsure.
Between December 2023 to September 2024, the belief in the victory of Ukraine declined in all regions, except for the West.
