After a meeting of representatives of different public groups about the protests, Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of the “Coalition for Change”, told journalists that the return of democracy to Georgia is not only the right but the obligation of political parties and society.
According to him, even though the current process is a political one and “leadership”, which is a part of the political spectrum is a political term, the opinion of politicians alone is not decisive, and the attitude of public should be known.
“Today’s events show that the return to democracy in Georgia and the return of the reins to the people of Georgia are not only the responsibility of the non–governmental organizations but also of centers of influence – everyone. I use the term “influencers” to describe everyone who has an influence and can give people a voice. We need maximum involvement. We have to admit, the political spectrum is behind society. We need to be critical and make decisions accordingly. We are not the only ones in this country. This is a process of politics, and “leadership”, which is part of the political spectrum is not determinative. We must know the attitude of society. The Georgian society is closer to the European Union that all of us.
In terms of tents, the “Tents for Georgia campaign” is our logistics campaign. This does not mean we will be the only ones to decide whether or not tents are placed on the streets. This is a decision that has been unanimously accepted by the opposition, which will soon be the government. We have a logistical challenge and have already collected 50 tents. I want to ask everyone to help, this will be in the service of our Motherland and we have a common goal”, Gvaramia said.
