No Economic Repercussions for Serbia if Russian Ownership Removed from NIS
The US will not cause any economic harm to Serbia if Russian ownership is removed from the Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS). This was said by Richard Verma, the US Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.
Verma met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Saturday. They talked about sanctions against companies with Russian ownership, including NIS. “We want to get rid of Russian ownership,” Verma explained. “This is not going to hurt Serbia’s economy.”
According to Verma, Russia has been taking money from NIS without putting it back into the company. This made it hard for Serbia to develop its energy future. By removing Russian ownership, the US hopes to make Serbia more stable and independent in energy matters.
President Vucic said that Serbia needs time to understand the new US sanctions on Russia. He wants written answers to five questions before talking with Moscow again. “We will not take anyone’s property,” Vucic stressed.
