**Ukrainian Documentary Nominated for Oscar**
A Ukrainian documentary film called “Porcelain War” has been chosen as one of the best documentaries in the world. The U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this on January 23.
The film is about three artists from a city called Kharkiv who joined the Ukrainian army to fight against Russia’s invasion. While fighting, they continued to make porcelain figurines as a way to show their cultural heritage. This was seen as an act of resistance against Russia.
**Awards and Recognition**
“Porcelain War” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024. It won a big prize there and has since been recognized by many other organizations. The film has received 45 awards and 31 nominations, including one from the U.S. Directors Guild Award.
This is not the first time a Ukrainian documentary has been chosen for an Oscar. Last year, another Ukrainian film called “20 Days in Mariupol” won the Best Documentary Feature award. That film was about the Russian siege of a city called Mariupol and showed the suffering of its people.
