**Nordic Countries Prepare Citizens for War**
The governments of Norway, Sweden, and Finland are distributing pamphlets to citizens with advice on what to do in case of war or emergency situations. This move comes after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine made neighboring countries worried about the possibility of an open conflict between Moscow and NATO.
Sweden is starting to send out these pamphlets by mail on November 18. They contain basic information on how to survive a “worsening security situation”. Finland provided a virtual version, while Norway distributed physical copies to all households.
The advice in these pamphlets covers essential survival tips, such as food and medicine, and emphasizes that the Nordic countries are prepared for self-defense if needed. Sweden’s message is clear: “If Sweden is attacked by another country, we will never give up.”
Both Sweden and Finland joined NATO after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, citing concerns about becoming a target for Russia’s expansionist ambitions.
**Concerns About War Escalation**
There are growing concerns that the war in Ukraine could escalate into an all-out clash between Russia and NATO. Russian leaders have made vague threats against countries joining the alliance, and NATO militaries have increased their preparedness since the start of the conflict.
Lithuania is also preparing for mass evacuations of civilians in case of armed conflict. Several NATO commanders have warned about the dangers of such a war and its potential impact across Europe.
