**Norway’s Secret F-16 Transfer to Ukraine Revealed**
In a surprising move, Norway has revealed that it plans to transfer or has transferred 14 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine – more than double the six publicly declared. This comes from the country’s annual arms export report, which was published recently.
The F-16s are crucial in defending against Russia’s daily air attacks on residential areas and civilian infrastructure. Moscow has been using missiles and explosive drones to disrupt life in Ukraine, and these fighter jets can serve as a vital last line of defense. While it is not specified what condition the additional aircraft are in, experts believe they may be used for technical training or spare parts.
**Condition of Additional Jets Unclear**
According to Militarnyi, an online publication that tracks military affairs, the 8 unannounced F-16s may not be flight-capable. This means they might have been withdrawn from service and are being sent to Ukraine for other purposes. While it’s possible some of these jets could be restored to operational status, this is not confirmed.
Norway had previously stated that only aircraft withdrawn from service in 2021 would be provided to Ukraine. However, the delivery dates for these additional jets remain unclear. The Norwegian government has promised to deliver all pledged F-16s by the end of the year.
**International Efforts to Support Ukraine**
Other countries are also contributing their share of fighter jets to Ukraine. The Netherlands recently transferred its last F-16 fighters designated for Ukraine, while Denmark is delivering its 19 pledged jets in three phases. By February, Ukraine had already received 12 out of these 19 planes.
Belgium has also committed to sending two F-16s to Ukraine in 2025 – one of which will be dismantled and used as a source of spare parts. These international efforts demonstrate the global support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia.
