**Norway to Continue Supporting Ukraine Beyond the War**
Norway’s Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, has confirmed that his country will continue to support Ukraine even after the war is over. In an interview with European Pravda, he stated that Norway’s commitment under the Nansen Programme, which aims to enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities and address humanitarian needs, will be extended beyond its current deadline of 2030.
**Major Support**
The Nansen Programme has allocated $7.2 billion over five years for military and civil assistance. For the upcoming year, Norway has allocated a significant amount of aid to Ukraine, with 35 billion Norwegian kroner (nearly €3 billion) set aside. Of this, 22.5 billion kroner will go towards military assistance, and 12.5 billion kroner will be directed to civilian needs.
**Specific Needs**
Eide emphasized that the support will be tailored to meet Ukraine’s specific needs and demands. He noted that around 50% of the aid should be allocated for military support, and 50% for civilian assistance. However, during this intense phase of the war, the proportion of military aid is higher.
**No Cash Transfers**
Kyiv will not receive the aid in the form of cash transfers. Instead, it must be directed towards a program or project that has been pre-approved. Eide also stressed that Norway’s weapons deliveries are limited by production capabilities and the availability of ammunition.
**Looking Ahead to 2025**
Eide mentioned that Norway’s assistance to Ukraine will be the highest it has ever been in 2025. He stated that this amount could potentially increase, but did not provide further details.
**Relocating Air Defense Training**
In December, Norwegian Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram announced that Oslo would continue supporting Ukraine’s air defense capabilities by relocating its F-16 pilot training program from Denmark to Portugal in 2025. This represents a seamless continuation of Norway’s critical training initiative.
