**Students Protest in Novi Sad After Assault**
Students and residents of Novi Sad held a protest on Friday evening. They were angry about an assault on four students that happened the night before.
The attack took place in the city center when four students, including Milan Stankovic, stepped out of a club to put on their jackets. A group of 10 people attacked them, slapping and hitting them with belts. The police arrived but didn’t take any action.
Stankovic told N1 that they were warned at the club about potential trouble from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) thugs. He said the attack was not a coincidence, but organized violence against young people who express their opinions freely.
**Students March Through City Streets**
The students of Novi Sad declared, “This is an attack on all of us. We must not stay silent!” Responding to a call from student protesters, their peers and residents gathered at the university campus. They marched through the city streets to the place where the students were attacked.
Leading the column of protesters were two tractors, while bikers had arrived earlier to ensure safe passage. The aim was to block the area and street where the attack took place.
**Protest Turns Confrontational**
As the protesters passed by the local headquarters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), they hurled eggs at the party’s storefront and threw red paint on it. Messages were spray-painted on the glass, including “You’re going to pay,” “AV murderer,” and “Prison.”
The Serbian Internal Affairs Ministry said it is taking measures to investigate the incident and prosecute the suspects.
**Injured Student Still Hospitalized**
The Clinical Center of Vojvodina (KCV) said one of the three patients who were brought in the night before with serious injuries is still hospitalized but in stable condition. The other two have been discharged for further treatment at home.
Protests in support of the assaulted Novi Sad students were also held Friday evening in Belgrade and Kragujevac.
