**Students Protest in Novi Sad**
A group of students gathered on the Petrovaradin fortress in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad to usher in the New Year according to the Julian calendar. They held a 15 Minutes of Silence memorial protest for the 15 people killed by a collapsed concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1.
**Memorial Protest**
The protest began at 11:52 pm with students holding up their mobile phones with lights on. A Serbian flag and a white flag with a red hand symbol were put up on the main gate of the fortress. The protesters also shouted “Your Hands Are Bloody” and sang “Vostani Serbije” (Rise Serbia), a song based on a poem written by Dositej Obradovic.
**Protest Actions**
Students threw fake money with an image of President Aleksandar Vucic and the numeral Zero on them. This was seen as a message to the government to take responsibility for the tragedy. The protest demanded justice for the victims and accountability for those responsible for the shoddy reconstruction of the railway station.
