**Ukraine Assembles NATO-Standard Rifles at Home**
The Ukrainian defense company, Ukroboronprom, has started assembling Czech-made rifles in Ukraine. This happened last November, 2024, and is part of the country’s efforts to become less dependent on foreign arms supplies.
**Local Production Gains Momentum**
Ukroboronprom announced that it had begun licensed assembly of the BREN 2 rifle, a NATO-standard assault rifle. The Czech-made rifle is already used by several countries, including Ukraine, the Czech Republic, Portugal, and Romania.
**Reducing Dependence on Foreign Arms Supplies**
The local production of rifles will help reduce Ukraine’s reliance on foreign arms supplies, making it more resilient against ongoing Russian aggression. This move is part of a broader effort to develop its own defense industry.
