**Ukraine Sinks Russian Warship, Surprising US**
The administration of former US President Joe Biden was shocked when Ukraine sank the Mosvka, Russia’s Black Sea Fleet flagship. A report by The New York Times on March 29 says there was “anger,” “surprise,” and “panic” among them.
The Moskva sank on April 14, 2022, after being hit by two Ukrainian anti-ship missiles. This was one of Ukraine’s biggest early victories in the war against Russia and damaged the Black Sea Fleet badly.
According to The New York Times, US and Ukrainian naval officers were on a call when they saw the ship sinking on their radar screens. The Ukrainians joked about it, saying “Oh my God. Thanks a lot. Bye.”
The US was surprised because Ukraine didn’t warn them about the attack and they didn’t know that Ukraine had such powerful weapons. The Biden administration also didn’t want Ukraine to attack a Russian warship, as it’s a potent symbol of Russia’s power.
This incident highlights the tricky balance the US has been trying to maintain since the war started. They’re arming Ukraine while trying not to provoke a bigger conflict with Russia.
