The New York Times reports that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization has “spared no effort” to become a military coalition capable of waging a war again, following Russia‘s invasion.
The alliance will change its defense strategy in particular. In the past it was thought that in the case of a Russian invasion the temporary occupation of territory by the members of an alliance was acceptable, until additional forces arrived.
Nevertheless, after the crimes committed in Ukraine by Russian troops, Eastern European countries are not willing to risk falling into Russian occupation.
The new defense strategy aims to make NATO forces “visible” in Russia and demonstrate to Moscow that the alliance can resist the first stage of an possible war.
NATO plans to spend more on defense and deploy more troops near Russia’s border in order to increase “visibility”.
