Serbian Regime May Use Force to End Student Protests
Opposition politician Vladimir Obradovic has warned that the government is planning to use violence and police raids to stop student protests.
Obradovic said that he knows this because of a letter sent by Education Minister Slavica Djukic Dejanovic. In it, she asks universities if they have taken action against professors and students who are participating in the blockades.
The government’s actions, according to Obradovic, are like those of a dictatorship. He says that this is not the first time that the regime has tried to control what people think and do. In 1998, the current leader Aleksandar Vucic was part of the government with Minister Djukic Dejanovic’s party colleagues.
At that time, Obradovic said that Minister Djukic Dejanovic was involved in punishing professors for speaking out against the government. Now, he says that she is trying to drive professors away from universities and students out of the country.
Obradovic emphasized that university professors will not be intimidated by threats to their salaries or careers. They will continue to support the students’ right to protest.
He also mentioned that the government’s goal is to have complete control over everyone and everything in Serbia. He believes this is so that they can keep on taking money from the country, making it one of the most corrupt countries in Europe.
