Constant shelling in the region has destroyed over 870 educational facilities and claimed the lives of civilians and soldiers.
According to UkrInform, Russian shelling in Donetsk Oblast has resulted in the death of 33 education workers since the beginning of the war. Tetyana Sidasheva is the Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Donetsk Regional Military Administration.
Donetsk is constantly bombarded by Russian forces. The occupants kill and injure civilians almost every day, destroy homes, businesses and critical infrastructure including energy and gas installations. Donetsk Oblast is home to the longest frontline of about 300 km.
“A total of 33 education workers have been killed in Donetsk.” The civilians are 16 educational facility employees. Sidasheva said that there are 123 teachers currently serving in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Unfortunately, 17 of them were already killed.
She clarified that the figures above do not include the casualties in Mariupol or Volnovakha.
Since the beginning of the war, in 2022, Russian forces have damaged 871 education institutions in the area. Sidasheva stated that this statistic is unfortunately continuing to rise.
Ukrainian authorities had ordered an evacuation of civilians in the area. In many settlements near the frontline, children and their families have been forced to evacuate.
