Interfax Ukraine reported that Oleksandr Litvynenko, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, said on October 15 that Ukraine is preparing to face mass Russian attacks during autumn and winter.
Lytvynenko stated that “with the start of the “heating season,” we can expect massive Russian attacks on the energy industry.” The “heating seasons” is the colder part of the year that usually starts in mid-October. It lasts until April.
Russia launched a massive aerial campaign against Ukraine’s energy grid in the spring, similar to that which was launched during the winter and fall of 2022-23.
The damage caused an energy deficit that led to rolling blackouts in the country.
Officials said that the Ukrainian energy sector was able to implement innovative solutions throughout the war and that Russia did not destroy Ukraine’s economic system.
