Oliver Varhelyi, European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, said at a Press Conference after the General Affairs Council meeting of the European Union that Georgia and its Government have implemented reforms and should be granted candidate-status.
“This is a decision that should be taken by the leaders of [EU member states]. I think that our proposals are very specific. We believe that Georgia has made a lot of progress, Georgia, and its government has implemented [reforms]. They should therefore be granted candidate status.
We will see if the European Council does it. My message to the Georgian Government and Georgian People is “keep on working”. Varhelyi said, “This is the best recipe for achieving success”.
