**Police Brutality in Georgia: Ombudsman Speaks Out**
The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, has spoken out against police brutality after visiting detainees at the city’s main department. He says that 11 out of 13 people in one isolation ward report severe physical abuse.
According to Ioseliani, the detainees have injuries mainly on their faces. One person was seen with bruises covering his entire face. The Ombudsman called this “a kind of cruelty” and said there is no justification for treating people in this way.
**Police Told to Respect Law**
Ioseliani also called on the police not to abuse their authority during arrests. He said that even if someone has done something wrong, they must be treated according to the law, not with violence. The Ombudsman saw this kind of behavior firsthand when he visited the detainees.
**Police Must Follow the Law**
Ioseliani emphasized that the law must be followed by law enforcement officers, just like anyone else. He said that it’s unacceptable for police to beat people during arrest. The injuries reported by the detainees are mainly on their faces, but some also have bruises elsewhere on their bodies.
