**Crimean Tatar Leader Calls for Russia to Face Justice**
The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People, a group that represents the interests of the Crimean Tatars, is calling on the world community to force Moscow to stop its war against Ukraine. The leader of this group, Refat Chubarov, made this appeal on a day that commemorates the victims of genocide.
**Human Rights Situation in Crimea Has Deteriorated**
Since Russia took control of Crimea in 2014, the human rights situation has gotten much worse. There have been many cases of people being detained unfairly, disappearing, and even being tortured. The UN has reported these abuses and noted that they are often directed at Crimean Tatars and people who support Ukraine.
**Russia Must Be Held Accountable**
Chubarov said that Russia must be held accountable for its actions in Ukraine. He emphasized that the war against Ukraine is a clear case of genocide, as seen in the destruction of cities like Bucha and Mariupol. The leader also reminded that the Ukrainian parliament has already recognized Russia’s actions in Ukraine as genocide.
**Recognition of Crimean Tatar Deportation**
Chubarov also talked about the forced deportation of Crimean Tatars in 1944. He said that this event was a crime against humanity, which is known as genocide. Many countries have recognized this, including Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania, Canada, Poland, and Estonia.
