According to Vaso Urushadze, the secretary of anti-corruption issues for the Unity-National Movement, if their party comes to power, they will prioritize the construction of an underground gas storage facility. This project, which is estimated to cost 750 million GEL, will not only create 5000 jobs but also lower the price of natural gas for both commercial and legal entities.
Urushadze criticized the current government, led by Ivanishvili, for failing to fulfill their promise of halving utility bills. In fact, under their rule, the commercial tariff for natural gas has increased by 54 tetris. He also pointed out that the government has been promising to build an underground gas storage facility for 10 years, but no progress has been made.
The proposed gas storage facility, which would have a capacity of 300 thousand cubic meters, would allow Georgia to collect natural gas during the summer and distribute it to the population during the winter. This would not only lower tariffs but also provide the country with energy independence and security, which is a crucial issue in today’s world.
Urushadze accused the Ivanishvili clan of squandering and corruptly appropriating the 750 million GEL that was allocated by donor organizations from partner countries for the construction of the gas storage facility. He emphasized that this amount could have been used to create jobs and boost the country’s economy, instead of being used for personal gain.
According to Urushadze, Georgia is the only country in the region without a gas storage facility, and this is hindering its development. He stated that the current government is only interested in their own benefits and does not care about the citizens of Georgia.
If the Unity-National Movement comes to power, they will ensure the construction of the gas storage facility, which will not only create jobs and boost the economy but also provide a constant supply of natural gas and lower tariffs for both commercial and legal entities. This, in turn, will contribute to the development of the private sector and businesses, which are heavily dependent on utility bills.
