Hungary to Continue Peace Efforts in Ukraine
Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó announced that Hungary will continue its efforts to bring peace to Ukraine. This decision comes after a meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and US President-elect Donald Trump.
Orbán is known for his close ties with both Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has opposed giving military aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in 2022. Instead, he wants to negotiate peace that would freeze the war and let Moscow keep control of some Ukrainian territories.
The Hungarian government plans to hold two more events this week as part of its “peace mission.” However, no specific details were provided by the Foreign Minister during a press briefing in Budapest.
Orbán’s efforts have been met with tension within the European Union. In July, he sparked controversy by holding separate talks with Russia while Hungary held the EU presidency.
