Orban calls Zelensky’s victory plan ‘terrifying’ and urges negotiations with Russia

In a post on social media published Oct. 17, Hungarian Prime Minster Viktor Orban described Ukrainian President Volodymyr ‘s victory strategy as “more than frightening”.
Zelensky’s five-point plan for victory was presented to the European Council at Brussels on October 17, a day after it was unveiled to the public in a special session held by the Ukrainian parliament.
Orban wrote in a Facebook post ahead of the EU Summit: “What (Zelensky), yesterday, outlined in the Ukrainian Parliament is more than frightening.”
Orban called on the EU to change their strategy in regards to the war in Ukraine, and reiterated his calls for “a truce and peace talks.”
Orban’s leadership has led Hungary to repeatedly block aid to Kyiv and push for negotiations with Moscow. They have also spouted Kremlin talk points. Orban has been lobbying aggressively since he assumed the presidency of the (in July) to as a mediator between Ukraine and Russia.
Orban called Zelensky’s victory plan “dangerous,” which included the use of long-range weapons against Russian targets and more.
The proposal consists of five points: an invite to join NATO; a defense component; non-nuclear dissuasion of Russian aggression; economic growth and co-operation, and a post-war security framework. The proposal also includes three classified addenda which have been shared with partners internationally.
Orban’s post also stated that Ukraine is “losing” its war against Russia.
“I will also urge the German Chancellor to start negotiations with Russia immediately on behalf of all of the European Union. We need to find a solution.”

In an interview with The Washington Post on October 17, Trump blamed the U.S., Ukraine and other leaders for the war. He did not mention .
